Sclerosing injections (varicose veins)
Sclerotherapy involves injecting a sclerosing agent (in liquid or foam form) into the varicose vein, causing it to close definitively, or to sclerose. Simple and safe, this treatment is by far the most frequently prescribed. It is ideal for treating small or medium-sized varicose veins.
What can I expect?
Initially, a meeting with the medical director is necessary to determine your treatment plan. A clinical nurse will inject a product using a fine needle, and the sclerosed veins will gradually disappear.
More than one treatment may be necessary to eliminate the varicose veins and maintenance sessions are recommended to prevent the appearance of new varicose veins.
Incidents are rare and not dangerous. In exceptional cases, sclerotherapy can cause an allergic reaction and skin pigmentation.
This treatment requires no recovery time. Lasting at least 20 minutes, the treatment may cause a slight tingling or sensation of warmth during the session. This sensation quickly disappears after the treatment. Since the treatment involves an injection into the veins, slight bruising may appear. This will fade naturally within 3 weeks – during which time patients should not expose the treated area to the sun without protection.
