Sclerotherapy for treating varicose veins

Sclerotherapy injections (varicose vein)

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a sclerosing agent (in liquid or foam form) into the varicose vein, causing it to permanently close or sclerose. Simple and safe, this treatment is by far the most commonly prescribed. It is ideal for treating small to medium-sized varicose veins.

Procedure

What should I expect?

Initially, a meeting with the medical director is necessary to determine your treatment plan. A clinical nurse will inject a sclerosing agent using a fine needle, and the sclerosed veins will gradually disappear.

More than one treatment may be needed to eliminate varicose veins, and maintenance sessions are recommended to prevent the appearance of new varicose veins.

Incidents are rare and not dangerous. Exceptionally, sclerotherapy may cause an allergic reaction and skin pigmentation.
